Overview of Egynte

Egnyte, originally founded in 2007 in Mountain View, California, is a privately funded enterprise that fulfills data storage and other IT needs on behalf of medium and large-sized companies. According to their official website, Egnyte offers “adaptive enterprise file services” on behalf of businesses and enterprises. But what exactly does the term mean and, perhaps even more importantly, how can it be used by companies in order to affect their day-to-day operations?

Simply put, Egnyte leverages cloud storage as well as their physical datacenter infrastructure in order to offer their customers a heightened level of control over their data. It also eases constraints on IT teams by simplifying and streamlining entire data storage and file sharing processes. One of the main goals is to ensure accessibility to IT experts as well as common end-users.

Vineet Jain, CEO and co-founder of Egnyte, provided a breakdown of what companies should look for when trying to secure data storage and file sharing services. Coincidentally, Jain’s own company, Egnyte, is able to fulfill all of these needs.

Jain wrote: “When assessing an enterprise-grade file-sharing platform, you should look for a variety of options, including the ability to transfer and store files on multiple cloud solutions (depending on the requirements of your employees and IT department). Specific use cases sometimes call for unique deployments; other times, they don’t take much extra effort. In any case, the cloud solution you choose should be flexible enough to adapt to your business, not the other way around.”

Customers and Partnerships

Egynte has benefitted from the arrangement of numerous investments and partnerships during their time in the industry. Some of their most recent investors include Seagate, CenturyLink and Northgate Capital, who contributed $29.5 million in funds. Previous investors include Google Ventures, Polaris Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and more.

At the time of this writing, Egnyte offers its services to a number of highly prolific clients positioned in several sectors, including engineering and construction, architecture, media, public relations, advertising and more. Some of the top customers include IKEA, Red Bull, Tommy Hilfiger, Cracker Barrel, Garda, Yerba Beuna Center for the Arts and more.

Industry Recognition

Thanks to their innovation in the area of IT over the past few years, Egnyte has already gained a great deal of recognition amongst industry peers. Their hybrid model of physical and cloud-based storage has set a new benchmark for other data storage and file sharing companies to aim for.

Eric Slack, a professional analyst with Storage Switzerland, spoke highly of Egnyte by saying: “When assessing an enterprise-grade file-sharing platform, you should look for a variety of options, including the ability to transfer and store files on multiple cloud solutions (depending on the requirements of your employees and IT department). Specific use cases sometimes call for unique deployments; other times, they don’t take much extra effort. In any case, the cloud solution you choose should be flexible enough to adapt to your business, not the other way around.”
