The Best Buy Geek Squad is nothing new. First formed in 1994 as an independent technical support and troubleshooting service, the group partnered with Best Buy in 2004 – effectively introducing them to locations all throughout the United States and Canada.
While they've been troubleshooting devices and fixing computers every since, Best Buy is expanding their horizons even further with the expansion of the Apple authorized service network. Additionally, the Geek Squad has recently trained more than 7,500 Apple-certified technicians that are qualified to make same-day repairs on many Apple devices – including the iPhone.
Tara Bunch, vice president of AppleCare with Apple, was quoted as saying: "At Apple, we’re dedicated to providing the best customer service in the world. If a customer ever needs to repair their products, we want them to feel confident those repairs are done safely and correctly. We’re always looking at how we can reliably expand our network of trained technicians and we’re excited to partner with every Best Buy store so it’s even easier for our customers to find an authorized repair location near them."
But all of this new expansion isn't without a good reason. The growing popularity of Apple devices has led to a plethora of new problems – including longer service turnaround times. By authorizing every single Best Buy store to perform repairs, Apple should be able to solve many of the problems that are plaguing their customers as of late.
Trish Walker, president of services with AppleCare, echoed Bunch's earlier statements by saying: "We love being there for our customers no matter what their Apple need is, from helping them choose the right device, to offering AppleCare protection and now helping fix their devices. We’ve always enjoyed a great partnership with Apple and we’re thrilled that, together, we can better serve our customers."
Apart from the official Apple stores and their newfound presence within Best Buy, there are nearly 2,000 additional companies in the United States that are authorized to perform repairs on Apple products and devices. In fact, their new coverage is so extensive that eight out of ten Apple customers are now within 20 minutes or less of an authorized Apple service provider – a feat that was unimaginable just a few short years ago.
Moreover, there are three times as many authorized service locations when compared to just three short years ago. Not only is this a testament to the growing popularity of Apple, but it speaks volumes on their willingness to do whatever it takes to serve their customers. While they still have some work to do before everyone is completely satisfied, they're certainly on the right track.
