Barracuda Pioneers Cloud-to-Cloud Backup

Specializing in cloud-centric data storage and protection, Barracuda Networks’ newest offering, Cloud-to-Cloud Backup, is looking to enhance their flexibility and integrity of cloud-based storage networks today. Available as software-as-a-service (SaaS), Barracuda’ Cloud-to-Cloud Backup is already turning heads around the industry.

The Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup service is meant to facilitate the replication of data between supported cloud platforms. Moreover, it also gives IT officials the option of exporting their data to an external hard disk or tape storage system. Additionally, the physical-to-virtual portability option featured in Barracuda Backup lets users recover their files onto a virtual device, thereby streamlining and hastening the entire restoration process.

Initial functionality of Barracuda’s Cloud-to-Cloud Backup service is quite limited, as it is currently only compatible with Microsoft Office 365. As such, the service will be made available only to those who use specific applications with Microsoft Office 365, including OneDrive for Business and Exchange Online. Future updates will be used to increase the compatibility of the software even further.

Rod Mathews, general manager of storage with Barracuda, described the benefits of his company’s new cloud-to-cloud backup functionality. He was quoted as saying: “As IDC's worldwide unit leader in Integrated Purpose Built Backup Appliances, extending the value we provide to our customers is always our top priority, which includes giving them flexible options for protecting their data and restoring services quickly in the event of a disaster. As businesses continue to move their infrastructures to the cloud with the adoption of SaaS applications, providing the same level of protection for physical servers, virtual servers, and cloud services is crucial. The new options for Barracuda Backup, including Cloud-to-Cloud Backup for SaaS applications, will offer customers additional flexibility for data protection and disaster recovery.”

Barracuda Cloud Control

Once data has been replicated, via a secure connection, to Barracuda’s Cloud Storage servers, users will be able to access their data through the Barracuda Cloud Control console. In addition to facilitating the data restoration process, users of the Barracuda Cloud Control console will see a number of benefits, including stringent protection against accidental or malicious data erasure, full control over data retention policies, automated backups as well as the ability to initiate manual backups as needed, comprehensive file searching capabilities and AES 256-bit encryption.

Availability

Barracuda’s Cloud-to-Cloud Backup program, specifically for Microsoft Office 365, will be made available in the summer of 2015. Current Barracuda Backup customers who have an active subscription to the Barracuda Backup Unlimited Cloud Storage service will be given the opportunity to use their new service with no charge. An active subscription is not required however, and a standalone service is available for customers who only want to use the Cloud-to-Cloud Backup functionality.
