Although the majority of the current cloud computing market is dominated by a few big names, including Amazon, Google and Microsoft, that doesn’t necessarily mean that smaller, specialized cloud service providers can’t eke out their own existence in the new and highly competitive sector.
Such is the case for Egenera, an established infrastructure and cloud management provider who recently announced their plans for a multi-cloud architecture meant for their IT partners and resellers. Known as Xterity, the service is expected to lessen capital expenses as well as day-to-day management costs while increasing the efficiency and availability of cloud services across the board.
Because it is built on the well-known Egenera Cloud Suite, Xterity has the benefit of proven and award-winning technology. The Egenera Cloud Suite automates numerous complex processes associated with scaling and securing private, public and hybrid cloud environments. With Xterity, users of the service will be able to access all of their controls via a single, user-friendly interface.
Pete Manca, Egenera’s CEO, spoke about the benefits of the newly launched cloud platform. He was quoted as saying: “Xterity provides a tremendous opportunity for managed service providers and the IT channel. A global wholesale service like this makes it simple for partners to deliver a fully managed cloud service and deploy mission critical applications – all without having to build, manage or own their own infrastructure. This frees resellers to focus on their customer relationships, create custom solutions and enhance their brand with their end users.”
Strengthening the Xterity service even further is the fact that service will be hosted through the Equinix Platform. This offers greater global visibility, improved connectivity and enhanced supply chain management.
Equinix’s CSO, Pete Hayes, highlighted some of the expected service enhancements in a recent interview when he said: “Xterity combines the strengths of Egenera with the cloud interconnection value of Platform Equinix to provide a service that supports our expanding global channel partner program. For Equinix, this solution helps further our goal to provide interconnection value to our customers, and serves as a place where businesses and cloud service providers come together to accelerate cloud adoption by connecting securely and directly within our data centers.”
Many of Egenera’s partners have been working with the company’s software systems for nearly a decade. Panasonic Information Systems, who has used Egenera software since 2006, has been satisfied with the service to date. Keisuke Tanaka, executive officer with Panasonic Information systems, was quoted as saying: “The introduction of the Xterity solution, built on Egenera’s Cloud Suite software, lets us offer hosted cloud services with a global reach and no up-front investment for us or our customers. This will enable us to provide the Xterity DRaaS offering to our customers, who previously hesitated to deploy a disaster recovery solution due to the typical associated high cost.”
