Introducing ioFABRIC’s Vicinity SDS Solution

Based out of Toronto, the team with ioFABRIC has recently won the Most Innovative Enterprise Business Application Award while attending the Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, California. The award-winning product, a software-defined storage solution known as SDS, is meant to alleviate some of the challenges and costs associated with big data storage in the 21st century.

Steven Lamb, co-founder and current CEO of ioFABRIC, commented on the award while highlighting some of the primary features of their Vicinity solution. He was quoted as saying: “It is an honor to be recognized by the Awards Committee for our commitment to innovation and leadership within the field. Vicinity solves three of the biggest IT infrastructure problems facing businesses today, which are effective use of flash, dealing with data growth, and managing disparate storage devices/systems across the enterprise. Our industry-unique Vicinity QoS-based storage automation unifies existing and new storage investments to create a dynamic platform that delivers Storage-as-a-Service across business, including all flash enterprise resources.”

Vicinity’s main purpose is to bolster storage automation through a number of means, including centralized storage management, improved resource utilization and streamlined flash deployment. As such, IT administrators are able to meet quality-of-service standards while maintaining system versatility. Moreover, thanks to dynamic controls, administrators are able to accommodate changing workloads and conditions on a day-to-day basis.

Chairman of the Awards Program and President of Network Storage Advisors, Inc., Jay Kramer, mentioned some of the reasons for the nomination. He was quoted as saying: “Storage administrators are seeking Quality-of-Service (QoS) coupled with a software defined storage architecture that delivers flexibility and choice in their storage hardware systems combined with storage management. He continued by touting Vicinity, saying: “It provides a unique QoS based storage management software solution that simultaneously serves converged, hyper-converged, and SAN storage requirements.”

Additional Features

Apart from the primary functionality of ioFABRIC’s Vicinity, the solution offers a number of additional features and benefits. This includes the ability to deploy Vicinity as a physical or virtual appliance, a vast reduction in storage provisioning time, minimization of system downtimes, elimination of manual data migration and unification of flash, DRAM and hard drive storage throughout SAN, NAS, cloud and direct storage. Finally, Vicinity features a highly scalable platform that can be customized in order to accommodate the needs of each individual user.

Pricing schemes for Vicinity revolve around an annual subscription, which is based on the actual capacity required. Moreover, site-specific and perpetual licensing options are also available. The Vicinity software is currently available through distributors and resellers, though it is also included in some appliances.
