As interest in SSDs continue to climb, Lite-On Technology Corporation has recently announced their plans to expand a prolific manufacturing plant located in Taiwan. A manufacturer of SSDs under both the Lite-On and Plextor names, the team with Lite-On hopes to have their new expansion wrapped up by the end of the year.
In another, perhaps even more significant move, Lite-On has also announced a $30 million investment to construct a second, complementary manufacturing facility in the area. The move is expected to bolster Lite-On's manufacturing capabilities by 30% while simultaneously providing 150 new jobs to the area.
Darlo Perez, managing director with Lite-On Storage Americas, spoke about consumers' growing reliance on digital storage as well as Lite-On's plans for the future by stating: "Researchers say more data has been generated in the past two years alone than in the entire history of the human race, which is putting enormous pressure on the storage market to keep pace. Lite-On Storage has experienced unprecedented growth and our business is poised to continue growing our market position as well as accelerate delivery of advanced storage solutions in anticipation to roll out our portfolio of new products in 2017."
All of these moves are expected to increase Lite-On's presence in the fast-growing SSD market. In fact, Lite-On recently became the third largest SSD supplier in the world during the first quarter of 2016. This was achieved, in part, by increasing their worldwide SSD shipments by more than double the amount of the previous year.
It should come as no surprise that one of their most recent models, the EP2 PCie Gen 3 x 4, NVMe 2.5" SSD, is one of their most popular enterprise-level SSDs to date. Originally unveiled at CES 2016, IT experts from all over the industry received an early glimpse at the technology before it was even released to the general public. As expected, interest in Lite-On and their newest SSD offering have been growing ever since.
The Lite-On SATA SSD CV1+ was also recently introduced to the general public. Meant specifically to protect against data loss or corruption due to sudden or frequent power outages, the CV1+ is the ideal choice for large-scale data centers and server farms.
Jeffrey Chang, technical product manager with Lite-On, explained some of the driving factors behind Lite-On's production efforts as well as the benefits of their CV1+ drive. He was quoted as saying: " Lite-On’s engineers work closely with our vendors and customers to develop innovative solutions for a fast moving storage industry. We are the first to offer enterprise grade data protection with a client based SSD. Companies that are looking to upgrade their data center or servers from HDDs to SSDs with a limited budget might consider our CV1+ as a great solution."
