Seagate's Massive 10TB HDDs Hit the Market

When it comes to hard drives, there aren't many options available for those who want a single device with a terabyte-capacity in the double digits. Seagate, however, actually offers several very distinct and different drives with a capacity of 10 TB.

Barracuda Pro 10TB

Entering the mainstream market in mid-2016, the Seagate Barracuda Pro has received a plethora of great reviews in a relatively short amount of time. Apart from boasting a capacity that is far beyond that of common standards, the Barracuda Pro is also stunningly fast.

While it's obviously not on par with modern SSDs - this is, after all, a disk-based drive, the 7,200 RPM and 6Gbps SATA connection provide for exceptional read and write speeds. Consumers who are interested in the Seagate Barracuda Pro 10TB hard drive can purchase one at the manufacturer's suggested retail price of just over $500.

Matt Rutledge, senior vice president with Client and Consumer Storage with Seagate, touted his company's new 10 TB drives with the quote: "By incorporating powerful new features and capabilities, our 10TB products also make it easier for everyone to create, consume and use data."

IronWolf Pro 10TB

Since the Barracuda Pro line of drives is aimed at the average consumer, the IronWolf family has been specifically designed for NAS installations. Although it is primarily meant for small and medium-sized businesses, the IronWolf Pro 10TB is also a great choice for consumers who need a little more power, efficiency and storage capacity than most users.

Jeff Fochtman, vice president of global marketing with Seagate, spoke about power of the IronWolf Pro 10TB hard drive by saying: "An extension of Seagate’s Guardian Series of 10TB hard drives launched in July, the IronWolf Pro gives businesses greater durability and agility to run their heaviest workloads in large, multi-user NAS environments."

The Seagate IronWolf Pro 10TB hard drive is currently available at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $470.

SkyHawk

Lastly, Seagate is even targeting the digital surveillance niche by offering the SkyHawk line of hard drives. Complete with customized firmware that is meant to support high-quality video streaming and continuous recording, the Seagate SkyHawk series is great for those who want to beef up security around the home or office.

Moreover, the Seagate SkyHawk 10TB drive is rather affordable. With a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $460, it's actually the most affordable option on our list.

Chenghua Sun, research and development director with Hikvision, a long-time partner of Seagate, spoke about some of the newest features in digital surveillance as well as the functionality of the SkyHawk drive. He was quoted as saying: "With the advances in camera technology from 4k to thermal to panoramic recording, Hikvision believes in Seagate’s technology to optimize storage for highest quality recordings and to ensure customer data is safe and secure."

Setting a High Benchmark for the Future

The recent line of 10TB hard drives from Seagate, if nothing else, is proof of their long-term dedication to data storage. With more data being generated on a daily basis than ever before, and with enhanced needs in data preservation and archival, it's safe to say that we'll be hearing Seagate's name for years to come.
