Seagate Now Offering 6TB HD Meant for Cloud Computing

In an effort to continue their status as a pioneer and leader in the digital data storage industry, Seagate has recently announced the release of the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4. Expected to eliminate cloud computing bottlenecks while offering increased scalability as well as greater storage capacities to its customers, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 is expected to provide 25% better performance when compared to current market offerings.

Scott Horn, Seagate's vice president of marketing, explained their reasoning behind the new drive. In Seagate's initial press release, Horn was quoted as saying: "Unstructured data growth is doubling exponentially and will propel the digital universe to reach 16 zettabytes of data by as early as 2017. This will cause cloud service providers to look for innovative ways to store more within an existing footprint while lowering operational costs. Seagate is poised to address this challenge by offering the fastest 6TB enterprise capacity HDD based on our proven, reliable platform meeting this never-ending demand in both private and public cloud data centers.”

Key Features

Apart from the 25% increase in performance over other drives, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 offers numerous features that are sure to appeal to IT professionals throughout the industry. For starters, the drive is available in capacities as high as 6 TB, which boasts a 50% increase when compared to the last generation of Seagate drives. These features make the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 the perfect fit for RAID setups as well as replicated environments. Other available capacities include 2 TB, 4 TB and 5 TB.

Just in case that wasn't enough, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 also offers the most efficient rotational vibration tolerance amongst all drives available on the market today, which ultimately facilitates increased data preservation and stronger error correction functionality.

Finally, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 offers a self-encrypting framework, which comes complete with Instant Secure Erase technology for painless and worry-free disposal at the end of the drive's lifespan. Certain drives also include the SED FIPS 140-2 security option, which offers a level of data security that is suitable for government-level applications.
Interface Support

The developers at Seagate also took steps to make their new drive accessible to as many different enterprises as possible. To this extent, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 is available with a 12 Gb/s SAS architecture or a SATA 6 Gb/s interface, which means the drive can easily be integrated into nearly any existing enterprise setup.

In Conclusion

Needless to say, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v.4 already has IT officials taking notice. Many of Seagate's preexisting partnerships are excited about the new innovations, and they remain quite optimistic about the future.

Alex Wang, CEO of Synology, Inc., was recently quoted as saying: "Synology is very pleased to be working with Seagate on enhancing its device offerings. The integration of Seagate’s new 6TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 into our upcoming product lines will help us provide our customers with faster access to their content while offering a new set of increased capacities."
