Toshiba Unveils 8TB X300 HDDs

Consumers are now working with more data than they could have even imagined just 5 or 10 years ago. Between AAA games, multimedia creation suites and enterprise management software, the average consumer user demands more hard drive space than ever before. As such, some of the top names in the data storage sector are stepping up their efforts to provide – and brands like Toshiba are amongst the frontrunners.

The 8TB X300

In a time when many consumers are switching to SSDs, it’s difficult for a traditional, disk-based hard drive to maintain competitiveness. To do so requires a device of maximum capacity and ultra-high performance – and Toshiba’s 8TB X300 delivers on all fronts.

But this isn’t your ordinary hard drive. Featuring 128MB of cache and a speed of 7200 RPM, the drive is meant for desktop computers and, more specifically, gamers and professionals alike. We’ve seen similar drives on the market prior to the X300, but most are geared toward server setups and NAS systems.

The drive also features a 6Gbit/s SATA connection that is fully compatible with all major Serial ATA connections – making installation as easy and painless as possible. Also included is a high-precision positioning technology and a dual-stage actuator that provides a higher storage density than comparable drives.

Michael Cassidy, vice president of HHDs with Toshiba America Electronic Components, or TAEC, summarized his company’s mission by saying: ''“Availability of the 8TB X300 Series is a testament to Toshiba's commitment to growing the consumer HDD category and providing the tools needed to achieve varying professional workloads. Toshiba offers a full internal HDD lineup that targets specific storage applications and grows with your gaming library and digital content.”''

It’s clear that the Toshiba 8TB X300 was meant for CPU-intensive applications and constant usage, but the drive’s reliability and efficiency make it a viable option for everyday users, too. Whether you need a reliable and secure drive to store your digital photos or a device that is capable of playing the latest video games, you really can’t go wrong with the Toshiba 8TB X300.

Toshiba’s new drive is already available on store shelves across the nation. Additional options include capacities of 4TB, 5TB and 6TB, although all versions feature a 128MB cache for improved performance. All newly purchased drives include a two-year limited warranty. The 8TB model comes with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of just under $300, so it’s definitely on the pricier side of things – but those who demand maximum performance and reliability out of their hardware won’t settle for anything less than the best.
