Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1 TB 2.5 Inch Notebook Hard Drive

As my laptop's stock hard drive began filling up, I found myself in dire straights. I was short on money due to just starting a career through the internet yet desperately needed my computer to function at optimal levels. I searched through the many options out there and came to a conclusion after some time and research. Although there are many models of hard drive out at the moment, the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB 2.5" Hard Drive was exactly what I needed to get my computer, and my career, on the right track.

The Western Digital Scorpio Blue isn't the fastest drive out there, nor is it the most spacious. It isn't a powerhouse for hardcore gamers. It isn't the top of the line product a buyer could buy. What this hard drive is: the WD10JPVT is a solid, fast, efficient, and stable hard drive for casual users as well as more proficient computer types. With 1TB of memory, 8 MB cache, 5400 RPMs at a sound level of 22dBA idle, and 150MB/s performance speed what more could standard users ask for?

Before taking the dive and buying the hard drive however, it is important to note that there are actually two models of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue hard drive: the WD10JPVT and the older WD10TPVT. The older model and newer model both have 1TB of hard drive space, but the similarities end there. The older model spins at 5200RPM, it's performance is much lower at 124MB/s and it is slightly louder at 24dBA at idle. It also uses more power. The biggest drawback is its height; unlike the new model the WD10TPVT's height is 12.5mm, making it slightly too big to fit all notebooks. Despite being cheaper, this is one of the cases where you get what you pay for.

Compared to the related and faster Scorpio Black 750MB hard drive the choice becomes less clear cut. The Scorpio Black has 250gb less space but is much more powerful. It works at 7200 RPM, has 16MB cache, and is the largest and fastest Western Digital model. It does make more noise at 28 dBA, and as it's more expensive it may not be worth the additional price to most standard users. Unless you're a heavy gamer or do video/sound editing the extra performance probably wont be useful or even really noticed.

At 99.99 the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB Notebook Hard Drive is a powerful and stable device for just about any user. As far as the standard user goes, you can't really go wrong with this device. After my upgrade my computer has never run so smooth, nor have I ever been able to store this much data. Gone are the days of worrying about what I'll have to delete to make room for this movie or that game. If you're in the market for a new hard drive or additional one to supplement the one you currently have, look no further than the WD10JPVT.
